Under the supervision of the Plant Maintenance Manager the Operations Support Specialist III (Buyer) will coordinate, schedule, purchase, research and review pricing of material needed to support plant operations. They will work with Corporate Purchasing, Strategic Partners, national and local vendors as needed. They will order parts and supplies for repairs, maintenance and installations of tools, equipment and machinery for the facility in emergency and non-emergency situations in a timely manner.  They will support capital projects as needed. They will observe all safety regulations and ensure all GMP and quality standards are met to maintain the efficient flow of product through the production process.

Key Job Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrate behaviors in support of company safety procedures with focus on zero injuries.
  • Demonstrate behaviors in support of quality work processes to include documenting accurately the movement of parts/supplies.
  • Follow and comply with all Safe Quality Food (SQF) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s).
  • Understand and use Oracle as primary purchasing program.
  • Receive requests for maintenance, repairs and installations from various departments and prioritize requests. Process requests in a prompt and efficient manner.
  • Coordinate, schedule, staff and order parts and supplies for repairs, maintenance and installations of tools, equipment and machinery for the facility in emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Coordinate special projects; re-assess projects and follow-up on completed projects as required.
  • Work closely with planners, technicians, Line Leads and PM Lead.
  • Work with Maintenance Manager to manage facility inventory and monitor storeroom budget.
  • Review Bill of Material (BOM) for accuracy and possible cost savings.
  • Conduct benefits/cost analysis for maintenance actions and parts.
  • Work closely with plant finance to identify and reduce MRO inventory.
  • At the end of the shift secure all equipment, complete paperwork and perform general housekeeping duties.
  • Work closely with Maintenance Lead and PM Lead on all aspects of Oracle and provide training as needed.
  • Provide backup and perform duties as needed for procurement, scheduling, inventory control and supply room associates.
  • Work with requesting departments to confirm the closing and/or cancelling of purchase orders and assure orders are processed against the appropriate chart of accounts.
  • Receive and examines incoming stock for discrepancies/damage and work with vendor to resolve.
  • Conduct/lead cycle counts of supply room inventory and participate in yearly inventory counts as needed.
  • Analytical support by preparing usage reports. 
  • Qualify and measure vendor performance.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required, advanced degree preferred
  • 5 years MRO purchasing experience
  • 5 years inventory cycle counting experience
  • Previous Maintenance buying experience
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel and Access
  • Strong experience in MRP purchasing systems
  • Must be mechanically inclined with the ability to interpret technical information
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with co-workers at all levels of the organization.  
  • Ability to work autonomously and self-direct

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sit, stand, walk and climb stairs during time on duty
  • Lift/Carry/Push/Pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Reaching overhead occasionally
