The Production Team Lead is responsible for giving direction and motivating other hourly employees.  Responsible for assisting in the operation of a processing area to prepare products, meeting quality standards for distribution in desired quantities and, at minimal costs, to meet planned objectives.

Reports to Production Supervisor/Operations Manager. Receives minimal work specification and instructions from assigned supervisor; this position is intended to be primarily self-directed.  Supervisory functions are balanced with production duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides work direction to other hourly employees in assigned production department according to plant policies, programs, and standards concerning safety, quality, and productivity.  Keeps Production Supervisor informed of the status of production and provides prompt notification of any major problems..
  • Promotes safety in assigned area. Looks for ways to avoid unsafe working conditions; takes corrective action.  Exhibits safe work habits and encourages others to work safely.  Attends all safety meetings; leads accident investigations as required.
  • Helps ensure that plant is kept clean and that proper sanitation procedures are followed.  Participates in and supervises sanitation activities.
  • Coordinates the training of new and current employees within assigned department.  Shows or clarifies proper work procedure by personal activities.
  • Ensures that all quality specification and GMP’s are being met. Reports problems to supervision, including quality, in a timely manner.
  • Completes required record keeping and other paperwork/documentation accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Uses experience and innovation to improve production methods and procedures; recommends new procedures, equipment or other means to improve quality, production, and safety.  Uses technical expertise and experience for changeovers, trouble shooting, and general operation of equipment.
  • Coordinate activities of assigned units according to Company and plant policies, programs, and standards.
  • Utilizes the plant facilities manpower and raw materials to meet planned production schedule.
  • Assigns responsibilities to employees to meet planned production schedule.
  • Make periodic inspection of operation controls to verify that established policies, procedures, and practices are developed and being followed.
  • Utilize team building concepts to facilitate meeting planned objectives.
  • Perform special assignments as directed and other duties as assigned.

Education and Work History:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Preferred)

 Ideal candidate will possess:

  •  Able to lift up to 50 pounds, stack, and/or carry pans, ingredient containers, etc.
  • Must be able to work around and with various food machinery equipment
  • Have the ability to stand and/or stoop for the full shift
  • Ability to work in a loud, hot work environment
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Ability to work weekends and alternate shifts when required
  • Good writing, reading, and computational skills.
  • Must have computer experience, skills and abilities for record keeping and report generation.
  • Must be self-directed, requiring minimal supervision or guidance.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work with different work groups, departments and levels of management.
  • Prefer mechanical background and experience
  • Previous supervisory experience within a union environment preferred.

 

Equipment Operated

The employee will supervise employees operating equipment throughout the plant and may operate equipment on occasion.

Lifting Requirements

Generally directing work of other, could be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

Working Conditions

Assignments in all parts of the plant.
