The Relief Operator provides assistance for breaks, lunches, long/short term absences from the production line.

Generally includes responsibility for operating one or more pieces of bakery packaging equipment. Duties include proper machine set up, monitoring quality and speed of throughput, housekeeping, and may include post-productionclean-up, all accomplished in a safe and sanitary environment. Must be able to relieve all jobs on the line.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Change film, operate, adjust and troubleshoot bagging machines
  • Change recipe and adjust speed of Delta conveyor system
  • Operate, adjust and troubleshoot code/date machine
  • Operate, adjust and troubleshoot checkweighers 
  • Rework of checkweigher rejects
  • Housekeeping of work area
  • Assist in primary packaging
  • Maintain break schedule for breaks to be given in Secondary Packaging Area and follow the proper attendance and break policy
  • Relieves all line personnel as instructed by Supervisor/Lead
  • Performs all duties of each team member for effective relief job performance
  • Assist positions that require assistance when not giving breaks
  • Assists Team Leader with all duties, including line changeovers and ability to clean the equipment during a change over or at the end of the run
  • Flexible to learn and operate other bagging machines
  • Maintain proper inventory of all items necessary to maintain production on the line(s)
  • Assists the Team Leader and Supervisor in conducting quality control checks
  • Follow the proper PPE’s and GMP’s and be accountable for all the tools used during the shift
  • Wears uniform and personal protective equipment as required and/or provided by the company (e.g., hearing protection, gloves, hair/beard restraint, bump cap, respiratory protection, goggles, etc.)
  • Be able to think/trouble shoot, call maintenance  and raise questions if system is malfunction
  • Be able to lift repeatedly 50 to 70 LBs during a shift of 12 Hours
  • Be able to participate to additional task and duties as need it at Supervisor request. Such as loading /unloading pans, cleaning and organizing different areas, and working in different departments (CT1, packaging and sanitation)

Job Requirements

Education and Work History:

Qualifications – To perform this successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Education and/or Experience – High School diploma/GED preferred. Three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language skills – Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups or one on one with employees or management personnel. Good written and oral communication skills in English language.
  • Mathematical skills – Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10/s and 100/s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American weight measurement.
  • Reasoning ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer skills – To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of manufacturing software utilized in the packaging machines and checkweighers.
